My name is Sophia Forgy, and I am currently a student at the ArtCenter College of Design, trapped and writhing within the First Year Immersion program like a butterfly in its cocoon, struggling to be free. I grew up in a number of areas, ranging from the far, smoggy expanses of the Philippines, to the hustle and bustle of busy ol’ Hong Kong, to the trekkish, corporate tundra that is the suburban-urban San Jose.
What had initially inspired me to pursue art were the varied video games, movies, and TV shows I grew up with. Ranging from shows like Arcane to video games like Hollow Knight or Hades, each and every of my favourite pieces of media were critically acclaimed for their narrative and environmental storytelling, all of which can only be accredited to their gorgeous concept work. It has opened my eyes to an entirely new way of conceptualizing the world around me, and it’s why I want to become a concept artist- I want to be able to tell nuanced, expansive stories through my art.
As an artist, I primarily engage with digital rendering (often dilly-dallying in other mediums, like pencil, pen, and markers), and my own personal area of amateurish-expertise (the things I typically prefer to create) range from character concepts to narrative illustrations, all of which are themselves inspired by the many different cultures of the world.
Thus, I want to enter the Entertainment Design Concept track in order to hone my skills and research abilities, in order to tell compelling, visually engaging stories.
